If you prefer not to think too hard about the content management system driving your website, fair enough. Nobody really wants to know how the sausages are made.
Unless of course, your business is building websites. We think long and hard about this stuff to make sure we’re creating websites in the best possible way. For now and into the future.
I won’t lie, we sit fairly comfortably in Team Craft, but we also understand that not everyone has the budget for a Craft CMS build, which is why we devote plenty of time to making Wordpress do all of the beautiful, functional things you need it to.
The case for Craft CMS
We love Craft CMS because it’s scalable, secure, accessible and puts content first. You’ll love it because it’s flexible enough to deliver exactly what you want.
If you're managing or building a website for a large organisation, and it feels like every person who walks through the door needs access (and handing over that access makes you sweat just a little bit) Craft CMS is your friend. One of the many things we love about Craft is how easy it is to manage user roles, keeping content updaters on their patch and protecting the integrity of the overall website. User permissions and 2FA are built-in - no plug-ins needed, and the level of security customisation is a joy to behold.
And don’t get us started on accessibility features, we’ll go on and on like a boring old uncle at Christmas. Seriously though, Craft CMS makes it easy to invite EVERYONE into your digital room. Without considering the accessibility of your website, you’re leaving someone stranded outside. Someone interesting and helpful and valuable.
At the very heart of accessibility is availability. In digital design that means load speed and responsiveness.
Will it load in remote areas with intermittent wi-fi? Is it responsive to loading on a wide variety of devices?
Can it be read by a screen reader? Craft CMS is clean, allowing us to design and build beautiful websites that people can access and enjoy without layers of code to slow them down.
If your website is content heavy, words, images, video all need to be updated, uploaded, removed, and published. It’s like when the RSPCA reminds you that buying a puppy is a decision for life. A content-rich website needs to be fed, and someone has to open the fridge. Craft CMS is great for building uncomplicated content management dashboards, making that part of your job quick and easy. We co-create the structure, so you end up with something your team understands.
Let’s be clear, we think that the real recipe for delivering fabulous websites is that our designers and developers sit together. They talk, they laugh, they listen and they think deeply about what the user (we call them people) needs and likes. Craft CMS is so flexible and customisable that when we come up with an idea for a human-centred experience, we can build it without predefined content frameworks. Without the extra clicks and clunks. It helps us put the people first.
Craft CMS is the best choice if your business is established and you are ready to invest in long term, robust, scalable, best practice solutions and design.
The case for Wordpress
So, the great question is here, why would you not always choose Craft CMS?
A few reasons:
- You don’t have budget to spend a couple of months on a build
- You don’t have the team to support you to get the content right
- You don’t have the capacity to plan for the future with robust and scalable structure
- You might be new at this and not ready to leap into a big build
- You are testing - MVPs should be fast, iterative and continually tested.
Wordpress is the best choice if you are a small business with small budget and limited resources. Or even if your business has grown but you are still testing out what your website should be doing for you.
The great news is that Wordpress can do amazing things (and we love making it) to fit your needs without breaking the bank or slowing down your timeline.
